Shareholder Grant A. Fitz Inducted as the 2025 President of the Oklahoma Association of Defense Counsel

January 20, 2025 | GableGotwals Shareholder Grant A. Fitz was inducted as the 2025 President of the Oklahoma Association of Defense Counsel (OADC).

The OADC connects lawyers in Oklahoma who work primarily in defense litigation to exchange knowledge and ideas to improve their skills as defense lawyers and the standards of trial practice.

“I’m excited for this opportunity to serve as President of the OADC, a professional organization that has been important to me as a litigation attorney. I look forward to the programming and CLEs we will offer this year to promoting excellence in civil defense litigation and fostering collaboration among our members,” said Grant.

Grant advises clients regarding civil litigation in the areas of business, insurance, and healthcare law. As a seasoned trial lawyer, Grant represents clients in state and federal courts at all stages in the litigation process, including complex business litigation, medical malpractice, trucking law, aviation law, premises liability, and wrongful death.

He understands that each case is different; whether the issue hinges on complex cerebral anatomy and radiology or the fine details of a statute and how that can swing the case in favor of his client, he is well-equipped to defend all issues. Grant is named a Best Lawyer in Litigation – Insurance. He is also a three-time recipient of the “Rising Star” designation by Super Lawyers, which is reserved for the upper 2.5% of attorneys practicing in the State of Oklahoma. This designation represents his tireless work defending his clients, of which he takes great pride.

GableGotwals obtained a significant victory in the Oklahoma Supreme Court for its client, the Jackson County Emergency Medical Service District. In a unanimous, published opinion on a public law question of first impression, the High Court issued a writ against a Grady County District Judge prohibiting further proceedings in a personal injury case against the District. Neither the Oklahoma Constitution authorizing creation of the District nor the Oklahoma Governmental Tort Claims Act, which protects counties and cities, expressly authorizes immunity for Districts from damage suits. The Supreme Court held, the District had sovereign immunity and prohibited the District Court from going forward in the suit against the District.

February 26, 2024 | On February 13, 2024, GableGotwals obtained a significant victory in the Oklahoma Supreme Court for its client, the Jackson County Emergency Medical Service District.
