GableGotwals has been named a Highly Recommended Firm in the 2018 annual edition of Benchmark Litigation, a definitive guide to America’s leading litigation firms. Representing the Firm are David Bryant, Dale Cottingham, Jeffrey Curran, Sid Dunagan, Oliver Howard, David Keglovits, Graydon Dean Luthey, Jr., Rob Robertson, Scott Rowland , Amy Stipe and James Sturdivant. Bradley Welsh was included again this year as “Future Stars”. In 2017, Amy Stipe was also selected as one of two Oklahoma attorneys listed among the “Top 250 Women in Litigation” in the country. Benchmark is the only publication on the market to focus exclusively on litigation in the US. The guide’s results are the culmination of a six-month research period that allows researchers to conduct extensive interviews with litigators and their clients. During these interviews, recent casework handled by the firms is examined and sources are asked to offer their professional opinions on litigators practicing within their state or national practice areas.
Best Places to Work in Oklahoma
GableGotwals had been named one of the 2014 Best Places to Work in Oklahoma for the fifth year in a row in the small/medium category. Overall, only 18 small/medium and 17 large companies were selected to be honored. GableGotwals has been the only law firm recognized the last five years.

The Employee Choice Awards are based upon how employees rated their employers on a five-point scale in terms of work/life balance, fairness in promotion, time off and other areas of consideration. GableGotwals has been recognized by The Oklahoman as a part of the Top Workplaces in Oklahoma. In addition to being among an elite group of only 50 companies selected, GableGotwals was the only law firm included as an honoree. To find the Top Workplaces in Oklahoma, The Oklahoman partnered with Pennsylvania-based survey firm WorkplaceDynamics LLC, which has administered surveys to millions of employees since its founding in 2006. Oklahoma Magazine offers an annual state-wide compendium of the state’s best employers, strongest contributors to the state economy and companies that offer challenges. Employers are recognized in a special magazine issue Great Companies to Work For. Selected companies represent numerous economic sectors and are determined by a process involving research, the recommendations of key business leaders in Oklahoma communities and through this online nomination process. 2014 Go-To-Firm for the Top 500 Companies
GableGotwals was honored to be named among an elite group of firms that deliver exceptional work for Fortune 500 companies in the area of Commercial Litigation. According to Corporate Counsel magazine, less than one half of 1% of all law firms are included in the magazine’s “Go-To Law Firm” list. The list is limited to those law firms that general counsel as the world’s leading 500 companies rely upon routinely and for the most critical matters. This is the third year in a row that GableGotwals has been honored.
American College of Trial Lawyers
Seven members of GableGotwals have been admitted as a Fellow to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Firm members include David Bryant, Sidney Dunagan, Robert McCampbell, Oliver S. Howard, James Sturdivant, Jack Hays (deceased) and Charles Baker (retired). The American College of Trial Lawyers was founded in 1950 as an organization to recognize the very best of the courtroom bar.The Fellows of the College must have proven themselves in actual trial practice. There is an intensive vetting process and membership is by invitation only to persons who have distinguished themselves in trial practice for at least 15 years and who are recognized leaders in their local communities. The College looks for lawyers who are considered by other lawyers and judges to be the best in their states or provinces, lawyers whose ethical and moral standards are the highest, and lawyers who share the intangible quality of collegiality.
Leadership in Law Honorees
Each year the Oklahoma County Bar Association bestows this honor upon Oklahoma attorneys who have demonstrated commitment to their profession and communities. Steve Barghols, Renée DeMoss, Sid Dunagan, Deborah Shallcross, John Barker, John Gaberino, Jr., Dean Luthey, Joe Morris and Paul Johnson have received recognition for their outstanding efforts.
Chosen by a committee of judges from a meritorious group of nominees, Timothy Carney has been awarded the 2014 Power Attorney distinction by the Tulsa Business Journal. This is the fourth year for the award to be granted and Tim joins GableGotwals Shareholders, David Keglovits, Sidney Swinson, Dean Luthey, and David Bryant in receiving this honor. Also in 2014, Lori Sears was recognized among the legal professionals being honored. Lori is the first GableGotwals staff member to receive this award.
Woman of Distinction
Deborah Shallcross has been awarded the 2012 Women of Distinction by the Tulsa Business Journal. The program was created three years ago as a way to recognize accomplished female professionals in the local business community. Nominated by her peers and selected by a committee of judges, former Judge Shallcross joins a prestigious group of 19 other women who have been named as outstanding community leaders.
Men of Distinction
The Men of Distinction award recognizes accomplished male professionals in the local business community who have been recommended by their peers. Through their professional, civic and personal efforts, these men have significantly impacted the community. Their achievements have served to better the community and inspire other men. This award was established in 2011 by the Tulsa Business Journal and Dean Luthey, Jr. was selected in the inaugural group of honorees, David Keglovits was selected in 2012 and Sid Swinson was honored in 2013.
Achievers Under 40
John Dale was named to the Journal Record’s 2009 Achievers Under 40 list. This award is given to individuals who have achieved professional excellence and who have shown interest in working towards improving communities through being involved in a variety of professional and civic activities/organizations.
Neil E. Bogan Professionalism Award
Renée DeMoss joins Sidney Swinson and John Gaberino in receiving the Neil E. Bogan Professionalism Award by the Oklahoma Bar Association. The award is presented annually to an Oklahoma Bar Association member who has been practicing 10 years or more and who for conduct, honesty, integrity and courtesy best represents the highest standards of the legal profession.
Alma Wilson Award
Renée DeMoss was honored with the Alma Wilson Award which is given to a lawyer who has made a significant contribution to improving the lives of Oklahoma children. Renée was introduced to Hamilton Middle School Principal Debra Wiggins and other civic leaders who were developing the Hamilton “Career Academy.” Hamilton is an “at-risk” school, which means that ninety-five percent of the children attending live below the poverty level, and most drop out beginning in the 10th grade. Renée has continued her development of the Tulsa County Bar Association program through a mentoring project for Hamilton, which during its very first year paired 65 volunteers who work in law and government jobs to meet as “lunch buddies” with the Hamilton sixth grade students.
Golden Gavel Award
The Golden Gavel Award is presented by the Oklahoma Bar Association for OBA Committees and Sections performing with a high degree of excellence. Jeffrey Hassell received the award for his work as chairperson on the Community Law Week Committee.
Honorable Nan J. Patton Service to Children Award
At the Oklahoma Lawyers for Children Annual Dinner on December 8, 2009, the Honorable Nan J. Patton Service to Children Award was awarded to GableGotwals staff member Cheryl Jann for her tireless work as a court appointed special advocate for children. Judge Nan Patton served as the Associate District Judge of Oklahoma County from 1991 to 2006 and she dealt with literally thousands of cases involving children. Her leadership, steadfast courage and extraordinary judicial temperament served as a positive example to all. The Nan J. Patton Service to Children Award is presented to the non-lawyer volunteer who has best displayed these qualities.
John E. Shipp Ethics Award
The John E. Shipp Award for Ethics is presented by the Oklahoma Bar Association to attorneys who show commitment to enhancing the legal profession. GableGotwals attorneys Sid Dunagan and Sid Swinson have both been honored with this prestigious award.
Maurice Merrill Golden Quill Award
Linda King received the Maurice Merrill Golden Quill Award from the Oklahoma Bar Association. The award is given for best Oklahoma Bar Journal article. Linda was honored for the article, “Champerty in Real Estate Conveyances in Oklahoma.”
Thomas R. Brett Award
Ronald Ricketts has received the Thomas R. Brett Award from the Hudson-Hall-Wheaton Chapter of the Inns of Court. The Thomas R. Brett Award is the highest honor awarded to members of Hudson-Hall-Wheaton Chapter. This award is named for the United States District Judge who was instrumental in bringing three chapters of the Inns of Court to the Northern District of Oklahoma. The award recognizes those qualities sought to be fostered through membership in the Inns of Court–excellence in legal ability, leadership in the chapter and the profession, civility and character.
Woman of the Year
Renée DeMoss and Linda King have been chosen as honorees for the Journal Record’s 50 Women Making a Difference. It is Oklahoma’s largest event honoring women and serves to recognize those who shine as leaders in the community as well as leaders in their chosen fields.
