Barrett L. Powers is a shareholder at GableGotwals. His practice focuses on commercial litigation in all stages of litigation in state and federal courts, representing a wide range of clients, including publicly traded and privately held businesses, governmental entities, tribes, and individuals.

Barrett’s recent experience includes representing clients in complex commercial litigation involving diverse issues, including the False Claims Act, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, class actions, trade secret theft, and high-stakes contract disputes. He also routinely advises clients on non-competition and non-solicitation agreements. Barrett recently served as trial counsel in both jury and bench trials, and successfully defended and argued a civil rights appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

While in law school, Barrett served as an editor for the Tulsa Law Review and as an Executive Director for the Board of Advocates. He was selected by the Oklahoma Bar Association for its Outstanding Student Award, received the Order of the Curule Chair for graduating in the top 10% of his class, and received the Order of Barristers for outstanding moot court participation. In addition to his studies, Barrett served as a judicial intern for Chief Judge Gregory K. Frizzell of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

Barrett is active in the Tulsa community, serving on the Alumni Board for the University of Tulsa College of Law, the Executive Committee for the Tulsa County Bar Association, the Board of the Tulsa Chapter of the Federalist Society, and as a Trustee and youth leader with his church, First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa.

Representative Experience:

  • Part of trial team that obtained dismissal of approximately $300 million dollar claim under the False Claims Act on behalf of a healthcare client in Texas federal court.
  • Obtained summary judgment for an elected official on claims for civil rights violations in Oklahoma federal court. Successfully briefed and argued the appeal before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Part of trial team that obtained a unanimous defense verdict for an oil and gas company following a jury trial in state court on claims for breach of contract, gross negligence, and violation of the Production Revenue Standards Act.
  • Obtained final judgment following a bench trial challenging a municipal recall petition in state court.
